FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST

Dear NSA Freedom of Information Act Officer:

This is a request under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. I am requesting a copy of each document at the National Security Agency concerning the KRYPTOS Sculpture at the Central Intelligence Agency, and in particular its not yet decrypted fourth message. I am particularly interested in receiving documents or photos that have not been previously publicly released.  If it’s possible to send me the materials in a digital format to save on costs I think that would benefit everyone.

You may limit this request to documents originated at the NSA or from NSA employees. Please search all indices likely to contain such records. I understand that NSA analysts have written about the KRYPTOS problem as a training exercise.

This request falls into the fee category “Representatives of the News Media” because I write and publish an extensive and popular blog on cryptography in general and in particular on aspects of decrypting the Kryptos sculpture inscriptions. I agree to pay up to $30 for statutory costs associated with this request but would also submit that this request may qualify for a fee waiver.  My intent for this request is to post everything you send me online at a free blog I maintain (kryptosfan.wordpress.com) and this will be readily available to anyone interested.  In my humble opinion, this would forestall future FOIA requests on the same subject and hopefully spur open public discussions.

If you have any questions about this request you can email me any time.

Thank you,

Kryptosfan
