Contraband Blackout (1940)

This was an okay spy film with a fun plot that is obscured by the 70% of the movie spent in almost total darkness and Conrad Veidt not being the bad guy.  Captain Anderson certainly tried but Cesare kept coming through.

A modern remake would be fun but a lot of the context would be lost, naturally.  It’s funny for a movie called Contraband about a sea captain to be set mostly in London.  The US title of this movie is part explanation for the audience and part joke about it being literally a blackout.

It is definitely a spy movie.  It is definitely not about contraband.  It is definitely a great story but not that great of a movie.

p.s.  The nods to Lang and Mata Hari were noted.
