OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006)

I have a small confession to make.  I watched the first part of OSS 117: Lost in Rio a couple years ago and hated it so much I turned it off…

I have never been so happy to be so wrong!  This movie was fucking hilariously awesome.  If Rio is anything like this then I am going to build a time machine, travel back in time and punch my past self in the face.

I’ll try not to ruin it too much but this is definitely in the must-see category but particularly after watching a lot of the serious spy flicks including the Bond films.  Otherwise it just won’t make any sense.  It’s hard to categorize as a comedy, although it is, perhaps the more traditional satire in the truest sense of the word.  It takes everything that has come before cinematically and in this genre, removed the glamor with a scalpel, and yet if it was a puppy, you would adopt it immediately and love it forever.

The part that just killed me to the point that I turned it off and tried explaining it to someone not watching it with me was when Larmina asks him “What if I was a midget with glasses?” and his response.  I was laughing so hard I was crying.  Yes, it sucks having someone describe something as “soooooo funny” when it may not initially seem that way but I just wanted to tell you the part that got me so that when you go watch it, and I hope you do, that you find it as funny as I did.  You may not but hopefully there is enough in the rest of the movie to entertain you.  Come back and tell me yours…

UPDATE: No need for a time machine, OSS 117: Lost in Rio was super fucking terrible.
