The Man with One Red Shoe (1985)

Spies and the 80’s, win-win?

We’ve got espionage, counter-espionage, surveillance, interdepartmental infighting between CIA heads, assassinations, disguises, intelligence gathering, infiltrations, penetrations, honeypots, adultery, mysterious women, Tom Hanks, leopard print Carrie Fisher, James Belushi, helicopters, “bugs”, senate select committees on the CIA, cocaine, spy vs. spy, car chases, shoot-outs, one-way mirrors, mistaken identities and classic made-for-movie spy stuff.

So it’s weird to compare this to Dr. No and feel like it’s a more accurate representation…

I didn’t want to like it as much as I did.  I’d seen this years ago and never really understood who everyone was and what was going on.  I think the only hard thing is seeing this and knowing that what the public really wanted was to see that senate committees were successful in removing the immoral and unscrupulous leadership in the CIA and replace them with careful and sensitive human beings who cared.

Now go google image search william casey and charles durning and tell me there aren’t similarities.
