Dear FOIA Officer:

This is a request under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Date Range: 1989 to the present

I am requesting a copy of each document at the Federal Bureau of Investigation concerning the famous KRYPTOS Sculpture at the Central Intelligence Agency, and in particular its not yet decrypted fourth message. I am particularly interested in receiving documents that have not been previously publicly released. Please search the FBI’s indices to the Central Records System for the information responsive to this request related to Kryptos.

This request falls into the fee category “Representatives of the News Media” because I write and publish an extensive and popular blog on cryptography in general and in particular on aspects of decrypting the Kryptos sculpture inscriptions. I agree to pay up to $30 for statutory costs associated with this request but would also submit that this request may qualify for a fee waiver.  My intent for this request is to post everything you send me online at a free blog I maintain (kryptosfan.wordpress.com) and this will be readily available to anyone interested.  In my humble opinion, this would forestall future FOIA requests on the same subject and hopefully spur open public discussions.  As for personal vs. commercial use?  …it’s a personal hobby, I wish I could get paid for it and I’m sharing the information for free.

If you have any questions about this request you can email me any time.

Thank you,
